Schildklier + vit B12

Markers: TSH, fT4, fT3, IJzer, Ferritine, Vitamine B12

What do we determine during an extensive thyroid blood test?

TSH, fT4 and total T3
The TSH ensures that the correct amount of thyroid hormones is always produced and regulates the balance of these hormones. TSH stands for thyroid stimulating hormone and is produced in the pituitary gland (brain). It ensures the regulation of the thyroid gland and therefore also thyroid hormones.

The Free T4 is the form that is most commonly measured in the blood. In addition, there is also a total T4. The free T4 is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland that regulates other processes in organs. For example, it regulates that the heart rate increases or the intestinal processes work efficiently.

T3 is also produced by the thyroid gland on behalf of TSH. With T3 we also have free and total forms. The T3 controls organs in a slightly different way than T4.
Anti-TPO
These are autoantibodies against thyroperoxidase, also called TPO. Abbreviated anti-TPO. The anti-TPO test can detect a form of autoimmune abnormality of the thyroid gland. The test measures the amount of antibodies against thyroperoxidase (TPO), a protein that only occurs in the thyroid gland. Antibodies against TPO attack healthy thyroid tissue, disrupting hormone production.

Normally the immune system produces antibodies to neutralize unwanted invaders or pathogens. Sometimes something goes wrong and antibodies are produced against healthy cells, tissue or organs in the body. It leads to a so-called autoimmune disease in which unintentional damage and inflammation occurs in body tissue and organs, such as the thyroid gland in this case.

Antibodies against TPO are common in people whose thyroid gland produces too little thyroid hormone (T4). However, the antibodies can also occur in people whose thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone. And even in healthy people, small amounts of antibodies against TPO can occur.
Iron and ferritin
Iron is an important element, including for the production of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is a protein that allows red blood cells to bind and transport oxygen. Iron is also necessary for the functioning of a number of enzymes. Iron can occur bound or unbound in the commodity. Therefore, the transferin value can be measured to see whether there is an iron deficiency, alternatively the ferritin.

Ferritin is a protein used to store iron. The amount of ferritin in blood is a measure of the amount of iron in the blood. If the body has too little iron, the reserve supply in the form of ferritin will first be used up. Only when there is almost no ferritin left does the body produce too few red blood cells and anemia occurs.
vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is necessary for the production of red blood cells so that you can transport oxygen optimally. If there is a deficiency, you may initially experience symptoms similar to anemia: fatigue. In addition, vitamin B12 plays an important role in the proper functioning of the nervous system

When using thyroid hormone supplementation, the results may not be reliable.

When to opt for a comprehensive thyroid blood test?

This blood test is recommended when:
  • You have been referred through an external therapist who does the interpretation by looking at your complete complaints
The accuracy of the test for Schildklier + vit B12 is conducted through ISO-certified laboratories. The accuracy of a test method is expressed in terms of specificity and sensitivity. However, the most important aspect is that the results are interpreted and accepted among general practitioners and hospitals. This is the case with our venous samples. Mutual acceptance may not always be present due to potentially reduced reliability with a capillary sample.
Most tests generally take 24-48 hours. Tests that go through an LC-MS method generally take longer, think about an average of 3-7 working days. Additionally, it also depends on the location. Some locations do the analysis themselves and others outsource it to another lab.
Interpreting the results of Schildklier + vit B12 is not always easy and should be seen in the broader picture, along with anamnesis and physical examination. In the doctor's advice section, the query in which you can already outline your complaints is taken into account, otherwise, the results are interpreted in conjunction with the other results. If necessary, the doctor can call to ask about physical abnormalities. You don't have to interpret the results yourself because there is always advice and explanation from the doctor.
If the results of the test for Schildklier + vit B12 are clinically significantly abnormal, the doctor will contact you by phone. If you are not reachable, you will receive an email. This includes advice and an explanation of the abnormal results and what you can do about them. If you need a prescription or referral, we can help with that.
The costs of Schildklier + vit B12 can be found on the product page. Depending on your insurance and additional packages, you may be reimbursed for these costs for Schildklier + vit B12. For example, tests for IVF treatment are often reimbursed. After your order, you will receive an invoice that you can submit to your insurance.
The ordering process is easy. You can add a Schildklier + vit B12 test or the tests you want to your shopping cart. In step two, you fill in your details and pay. The blood test for Schildklier + vit B12 must take place at one of the collection locations we provide. At certain locations, it is possible for a phlebotomist to come to you. You can indicate this during checkout. An appointment will then be made as soon as possible to come to your home.
You can easily make an appointment for Schildklier + vit B12 blood test after your order in your Portal. You can visit almost daily in all major cities in the Netherlands. In smaller cities, you can visit on certain days. At certain locations, it is also possible to visit on weekends.
An interpretation by a doctor or an explanation is included in the Schildklier + vit B12 test. The explanation takes into account the query that you can specify in your Portal after ordering.
For blood tests, we always use venous sampling. This is the gold standard for blood collection. Over-the-counter tests, such as a finger prick test, use the capillary route for blood collection. These do not always give the same results and the accuracy depends on how, where, and with which technique the collection is done. The advantage, of course, is that the test is easier and less painful to take.
You can always pay with iDeal and credit card (VISA, Mastercard, and Amex). This also includes Apple Pay. The phlebotomists at the collection location cannot accept cash payments.
The results of Labplusarts can be shared with your general practitioner at your request. However, you can also easily arrange this yourself by downloading the result in PDF format. Because we use comparable test methods as the general practitioner, the results are interchangeable and comparable so that comparisons can be made well.
