Cholesterol comprehensive - What is it?

This package is an extensive lab that we have put together that is mainly aimed at people who experience fatigue and want to test cholesterol in a package. In this package we look at your cholesterol, vitamin D, vitamin B12 and finally we check whether there is anemia by determining the hemoglobin.

What do we determine?

Blood: Hemoglobin & MCV

A general blood test is not complete without testing for anemia, or anemia. Anemia mainly causes fatigue and feeling weak and lifeless. However, there are many different types of anemia. We distinguish between macrocytic anemia, normocytic anemia and microcytic anemia by looking at the MCV. The MCV is therefore a way to start looking for the cause. A blood test for anemia therefore always contains the Hb value and the MCV value. Since the normal values differ between men and women for anemia, the doctor will take this into account in the interpretation and advice.

Vitamin: Vitamin D and Vitamin B12

We determine the inactive form of vitamin D, we call this vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol or in molecular terms the 25-hydroxy vitamin D. It is important to keep the inactive form (25-hydroxy vitamin D) between 50 and 150 nmol / L. However, for people with persistent complaints it is advisable to maintain a higher minimum value. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) is necessary for the production of red blood cells and the proper functioning of the nervous system. Vitamin B12 is almost exclusively found in animal products, so vegans are recommended to have a blood test done if they have symptoms. Heart and vessels: Cholesterol

During the cholesterol blood test, we first determine your cholesterol. In addition, we look at the " bad " LDL cholesterol and the " good " HDL cholesterol. Based on this data we can calculate a ratio of cholesterol / HDL cholesterol. The lower this value, the better. We also measure the overall fats in your body, the so-called triglycerides. When to test?

In the case of complaints described here, it is recommended to take this test once. In case of negative results where the suspicion of a vitamin B12 deficiency in particular remains high, a follow-up test for another marker can be considered.
