Particulars? The results of the FOBT test take approximately 7 working days after arrival of the material in the laboratory.
On presentation of your referral, you can pick up the test kit at a collection location! You can return it thereThe FOBT test shows whether there are traces of blood in the stool (faeces, feces) that are not visible to the eye. Hence the term occult test. Blood in the stool can have various reasons. For example, there may be an ulcer, bulges, polyps, inflammation, hemorrhoids or, more rarely, a tumor. Fortunately, these tumors in the colon are relatively rare. However, an early test can ensure early recognition and therefore a better outcome for survival .
The stool for the FOBT test is collected in a jar. This includes a scoop so that the hands remain clean. A few days in advance it is advisable to take raw not to eat vegetables and meat. We also advise against painkillers.
What do we determine during the FOBT Test Large Intestine Fecal Examination?
Large Intestine: Occult blood in the stoolAn FOBT test is to detect colon cancer as early as possible. The sooner a possible tumor is discovered, the better the chances for cure and treatment. The FOBT test is not sufficient to definitively diagnose colon cancer. There are many causes of blood in the stool. Therefore, additional research must be conducted. After all, blood in the stool can be accidental. Is the result still positive after a second test? You will then be referred to the hospital to confirm the diagnosis with an examination of the intestines. We can help you with a referral through your GP.
The FOBT test is also used to detect causes of anemia. Anemia can have various reasons, but bleeding in the stomach or intestines is not easily noticed. However, bleeding in the stomach can cause continuous blood loss and therefore fatigue and weakness.
The result of the FOBT test is usually negative. This means that no blood has been detected in the sample sent. If blood is detected during the FOBT test, this means that blood has been found in the sample. Then additional research must take place. We will first take several samples to see whether there is consistent blood in the stool. If these other FOBT tests are also positive, we will recommend an examination of the (large) intestines.
