Gonorrhea - What is it?
On this test you will receive a urine container or vaginal swab at home. You will send it back in a pre-paid envelope via the medical post. So you do not have to go to a test location!
Gonorrhea is an STD that often occurs among young people It can be asymptomatic (without complaints) in women or cause unpleasant complaints such as increased vaginal discharge or irregular periods. In men it can cause inflammation (burning feeling when urinating or secretion, dripping). It is therefore important to unprotected sexual contact, have yourself tested with a gonorrhea STD test.
This is done via a urine test and not a blood test. You will receive a urine container by post or you can pick it up at our office location in Utrecht. You then hand this in at a testing location near you.
If the gonorrhea STD test is positive, you can undergo treatment. This is an antibiotic treatment. So you don't have to go to the doctor again to tell them that you have an STD.
Symptoms for men: in 10% of cases without complaints, with complaints pain when urinating, burning sensation. In addition, the 'drip' is a well-known phenomenon a few days after infection. You will have a yellow-green pus-like discharge. This can be minor, but also severe.
Symptoms in women: 30-60% have no complaints. Complaints are often an increased amount of vaginal discharge. Intermittent blood loss, pain and burning during urination also occur. The most dangerous complication is pelvic inflammatory disease PID. This is a collective name for pelvic infections that ultimately result in infertility.
What do we determine?
Gonorrhea bacteria
Gonorrhea from a bacterium that can be detected with PCR. For men you need urine and for women you take a vaginal swab. As a man, you must therefore submit urine for this gonorrhea STD test at Labplusarts. You can bring your urine to the sampling location in a urine container that will be sent to you by post or collect it yourself at our location in Utrecht. If you are a woman, you will receive a vaginal swab with instructions. You can then hand this in whenever you want.Make sure that you have the gonorrhea STD test tested at least 14 days after unprotected contact. The test is not reliable for that period.
Fasting testing?
You do not need to be fasting. In almost all cases the determination can be known within 24-48 hours. As a man, you must collect the first stream of urine. The vaginal swab comes with instructions. You simply hand this in at a puncture location.

When to choose this STD test?
Choose the Gonorrhea STD test when:- You have had unprotected sexual contact in the past two weeks
